Wooden cabinet on a patterned rug against a dark wall. Text reads "Where should I place my humidifier?" Mood is contemplative.

Humidifiers solve a number of problems in our modern lives. They relieve dry skin and hair, relieve allergy and sinus symptoms, reduce airborne flu virus, alleviate snoring, improve the health of houseplants, and even save money on heating costs.

But where is the location in your home to get all of these amazing benefits? That depends upon which humidifier you have, and which problems you are aiming to solve.

If you are looking to alleviate snoring and/or a dry cough at night, an ultrasonic humidifier is a great choice. Ultrasonic humidifiers create humidity in a small space, concentrating the moisture where you need it the most. Ultrasonic humidifiers, like the AURORA and AURORAmini, are perfect in any bedroom. Locate them near the bed, but at least two feet from the floor and each wall, and at least five feet from the ceiling. The nozzle at the top of the AURORA series even allows you to adjust the vapor’s direction a full 360 degrees, so you can direct the mist where it is most needed.

Evaporative humidifiers allow for a much larger coverage area. If you are looking to save on heating costs and increase overall comfort levels in your entire home, an evaporative humidifier is perfect. With many styles and sizes to choose from, AIRCARE has you covered. The AIRCARE Companion will cover up to 1,000 square feet, making it perfect for an apartment or condo. The stylish table-style AIRCARE Pedestal will cover up to 2,400 square feet. If you need even more coverage, AIRCARE has many styles, like the Horizon, that can cover up to 3,700 square feet.

But where do you locate these humidifiers for the best overall coverage? With a whole house humidifier, choose the most central room in your home, which is usually the living area. The idea is to get the unit where it can distribute the most humidity into the largest areas of the house. Placing the unit near a cold air return will help distribute the humidified air more thoroughly. Make sure you place the humidifier on a flat, level surface. Do not place it directly in front of a hot air duct or radiator.

Have a multi-story home? Our bigger units can cover a large home footprint, but again the location of the humidifier is key. Try locating the humidifier centrally in the home, at the base of the stairs, being sure to provide the best air flow possible. Some of our customers tell us they chose to purchase two smaller units and place one humidifier on each floor of their home. That is also a great option!

The benefits to your home and health will be felt, no matter which humidifier solution you choose. With many styles to choose from, you can locate a humidifier to fit any décor. If you still have questions or need help selecting the perfect humidifier for your needs, please give our Customer Support Team a call at 800-547-3888 or use our online chat feature.

NOTE: The square foot coverages are based upon a well-constructed home with insulation and eight-foot high ceilings. If your home is older, has older insulation, or you have higher ceilings, you might want to select a unit that covers a larger area.
