The best way to keep your humidifier working properly is to clean it thoroughly and regularly. Today, we’ll show you step-by-step how to clean your AURORA and AURORAmini ultrasonic humidifier. You will only need FIVE things: your humidifier, water, white vinegar, an old toothbrush, and a cloth. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Empty the water from the tank and base of your humidifier, then fill water tank about half full with warm water. Add ONE TABLESPOON of white vinegar for each gallon of water your humidifier holds. For example, the AURORA’s capacity is one gallon, so it will only require one tablespoon of white vinegar to clean it. The AURORAmini holds .33 gallons of water, so about half of a tablespoon should be used. You can find your humidifier’s capacity in your owner’s manual or in the resources section of our website.

Step 2: Replace the water tank cap onto the water tank, swish the water and vinegar solution vigorously around the tank, then let the solution sit for 20-30 minutes. This allows the solution to thoroughly clean the tank efficiently. You want to make sure you allow time for the solution to sit, because this is what deep cleans your humidifier.

Step 3: After the solution sits for 20-30 minutes, rinse the water tank with clean water. You may want to rinse your humidifier a few times, just to make sure you got all of the solution out of the tank. Do not leave any residue in the tank.

Step 4: For the base, take a soft toothbrush or soft cloth and gently scrub the metal surface of the oscillator. Then, make a similar white vinegar-water solution and pour it carefully into the water basin. Do not allow water or cleaning solution to get into the control section. Allow the solution to sit in the base for several minutes, then pour out the white vinegar-water solution. Wipe the base until it is dry.

Step 5: For the outside of the humidifier, put a little vinegar-water solution on soft clean cloth and wipe down the outer surface of the unit. Wipe down humidifier until you feel your humidifier is clean. Everyone’s humidifier will be different due to the state of cleanliness. Dry the outside surface tank with the cloth. Make sure there is no water left on the outside.

Once done, fill up your humidifier with water, and it’s ready to go to work again! We recommend cleaning your humidifier weekly to ensure that your humidifier produces clean, fresh air. Another great tip? Change the demineralization cartridges in your AURORA or AURORAmini after each 500 hours of use.
