Did you know that the summer months are some of the most important months to use a humidifier in your home? You may be thinking, “Summer days are SO hot and sticky already, why would I need even more humidity?” But, when the temperatures get hotter, many summer issues arise that a humidifier can fix!

If you live in a very dry area, adding a humidifier will help make your indoor air more comfortable during the summer months, just like it does in the winter. We recommend keeping your humidifier set between 40% and 60% to help relieve dry skin, dry hair, and make breathing easier.

But what about already-humid regions, like the southern United States? While it might be easy to think that the air inside will be more humid because the air outside is humid, this is not the case. Our beloved air conditioning systems (and boy are we addicted to them!) deplete our indoor air of humidity. This dry indoor air also dries out the mucous in our sinuses, making us more susceptible to viruses. Adding a humidifier to your home will help keep your humidity up — and help keep you healthy — while your air conditioner is keeping you cool.

Summer also means higher levels of allergens outdoors. Beginning in March, pollen counts are higher than they are during any other month of the year. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, the summer months can be a miserable time for you. Using a humidifier can help relieve allergy symptoms by keeping the air you breathe inside humid enough to moisten your nasal passages.

Your workspace can also benefit from a humidifier during the summer months. Using a small humidifier in your office or cubicle can help circulate the air in your workspace, which can create better ventilation and help you feel better when you work. Also, if your office air is typically very dry during the summer months, you can use a humidifier to help keep it comfortable in your workspace. You’ll get the same great benefits from a humidifier at the office as you do at home.

Even though summer may bring warmer, wetter air, the things we do to combat the high temperatures can leave our indoor humidity very low. Using a humidifier isn’t just for cold winter months!
